Greetings, colleagues!
My name is Julie Chenelle, and I teach eighth grade English Language Arts in Naperville School District #203. I instruct three blocks: gifted, general, and a co-taught course with a special education teacher. I have been in the education profession for ten years. Prior to that my professional life included being a buyer (for the now bankrupt!) Carson Pirie Scott and the purchasing manager for the University of Virginia Medical Center.
My comfort level is "it depends." I am taking this course in hopes of becoming more proficient and flexible in adding technology to my lessons. In our building, students have been 1:1 for three years. I continue to add resources and applications to my lessons through discussions in our PLC and conversations with colleagues in other content areas and buildings. Favorite tech tools in my classroom include QuizletLive, Socrative, Newsela, NoRedInk, Peardeck, and various ELA sites. The platform for posting assignments and homework is Canvas. We use the Google suite of products but not Google classroom. My Ed Tech success would be that I am open to learning new devices and applications--even though it doesn't come naturally to me. I know, however, that differentiation and engagement of my students depends upon integrating and embedding technical resources. Most memorable EdTech failure is probably when Peardeck disconnected from our WiFi during an observation by my principal. Funniest moment may be when my students recorded a performance "The Raven" in our green room. Nevermore!
Looking forward to being more "techy" with you all!

Julie, it's nice to "meet" you! It looks like you are familiar with lots of great tools! I hope you learn more and are able to use them with your students. Your dogs are adorable. I have a boxer, but I think he wishes he was a smaller so that he could cuddle with us. :)
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a great experience!
Sincerely,
Theresa
